Ways To Hack Your Dog Walking Routine

January 15, 2022

January is Walk Your Dog Month! Fido is often a bit more excited about those daily strolls than his humans are. A Huntersville, NC vet lists some ways to make the most of your time with Fido in this article.

Pack

Designate a specific jacket or waist bag for dog walking time. Keep it stocked with things you may need, such as treats, spare keys, earbuds, gloves, and personal protection. You’ll only have to grab one thing on the way out!

Leash Light

Walking your furry pal after dark can get tricky, as it’s not always easy to see or avoid potential hazards. Get a leash that incorporates a light, or a light that attaches to your leash. You’ll be able to see where you’re going without having to hold anything extra.

GPS Tracker

Our canine companions are extremely loyal. However, just because Fido loves you doesn’t mean he won’t take off if he spots a chance. Consider getting your four-legged friend a GPS tracker, so you can monitor his movements and track him down if he does go missing.

Make It Count

Do you wish there was more you could do to help homeless animals? There is! An app called Wooftrax will log the steps you and your furry bff take. Then, it will make donations to animal charities, based on that distance.

Learn A Language

Speaking of apps, have you been wanting to learn a new language? This can be a great time to use one of the language apps. Just don’t turn the volume up too high, and don’t get so distracted that you aren’t paying attention to Fido.

Secret Stash

Have you ever had to run back inside for waste baggies? Keep some in secret stashes around your place. Those decorative rocks with holes for keys or other items are a great option for this.

Lunging

Does Fido have a way of pulling on his leash whenever he spots a squirrel? This can be dangerous, especially with larger pups. Whenever your furry buddy does this, immediately change direction. This is going to get tiring, but that’s actually the genius of it.

Your canine companion will get the hint sooner or later!
