March 23rd is Cuddly Kitten Day! Of course, most people don’t need much urging to cuddle kittens. While all baby animals are cute, our feline friends are almost impossibly adorable when they’re young. While cuddling a kitten isn’t exactly rocket science, there are some things to consider. A Cornelius, NC vet offers some advice on this below.
Cats can form very strong bonds with their people. However, it’s important to nurture that special friendship. One of the best things you can do in this area is cuddle your kitten regularly. This will help Fluffy feel safe and loved.
Does your furball like ‘making biscuits’ on your lap? This is actually a compliment, if a slightly painful one, as it means little Fluffy sees you as a parent. Kittens knead to stimulate milk when nursing. Most cats eventually outgrow this, though it takes longer for some than others. This is one case where it’s best to just go with the flow. Put a towel or sweatshirt on your lap before you settle in with your pet.
Socialization is very important for young animals. It’s important to let other people pet and snuggle your feline buddy. Exposing little Fluffy to different people will help her grow into a friendly adult cat. Have some people come over to snuggle and play with your tiny furball. (We suspect you won’t have too much trouble finding volunteers!)
One of the biggest mistakes you can make when interacting with your furry pal is to try and force attention on her. If your pint-sized pal seems scared or uneasy and wants to get down, just let her go. If you want to earn her trust, you’ll need to let her come to you.
Did you know that hugging cats is very beneficial for both us and our feline pals? When you snuggle your furry buddy, a special hormone is released in both of you. This hormone is known as the Love hormone, and it helps form crucial connections between cuddling and feeling loved and safe. Snuggling up with a purring kitty is also very relaxing, and can be very comforting in difficult times.
