National Dog Week

September 15, 2020

National Dog Week starts September 20th. While we think any week is a good time to celebrate our canine companions, this is a perfect chance to spend some extra time with Fido. A Cornelius, NC vet suggests a few things to put on your to-do list below.

Homemade Treats

Treats are always a great way to celebrate your furry buddy, and reward him for all the love and laughter he brings into your house. While you don’t want to go overboard with fatty snacks, you can treat Fido to something special, like a bit of bacon or even a steak.

Spa Day

Taking a bath may not be Fido’s favorite thing on this list. However, he will be more comfortable with soft, clean fur. Book your pooch a beauty session at the salon. Later, you get to enjoy cuddles with a fresh-smelling pet!

Doggy Daycare

Does your pooch stay home alone while you go to work? Do you wonder if your furry pal would benefit from spending more time with his canine friends? Consider enrolling Fido in doggy daycare. This is especially beneficial for puppies, because they need so much socialization and playtime.

Photo Session

Dogs really do take adorable photos. Snap some photos of your canine buddy. You can opt for more professional-type shots, or just snap some candid pics of your pooch being his lovable, goofy self.

Kids’ Projects

Many children are spending a lot of time at home this year. Pets are a huge benefit for youngsters: they provide kids with comfort and companionship, and make great playmates and cuddle buddies. Have the little ones do a project involving Fido. They can draw a picture of him, write a poem or story about him, or make some homemade doggy toys. You’ll find some great ideas online!

Playtime

Fido is super cute when he is joyfully bounding after a ball or stick. Take some time to play with your furry bff. This is bound to put a smile on your face and get your pup’s tail wagging!

Adventures

Most dogs are very curious and playful, and love exploring new places. Take Fido on a fun excursion to a park or beach, and enjoy some sunshine and fresh air. Just remember to follow proper social distancing guidelines.
