Here at Hambright Animal Hospital, one thing we are happy to offer is laser therapy. This is wonderful treatment has helped many of our furry patients feel better! A Cornelius, NC vet lists some great benefits of laser therapy in this article.
First and foremost, the first reason to use lasers is because they can help treat a verity of medical issues. Laser therapy is most often used to help dogs with arthritis, but it is also helpful in treating soft tissue problems; skin problems; surgical wounds; joint troubles; neck and back issues; nerve injuries; musculoskeletal problems; neuromuscular disease; and bone fractures. It can also help pets heal from trauma or surgery.
Laser therapy does not require the use of anesthesia. Your furry friend will also not need any drugs. This is a big relief! For one thing, it isn’t always easy getting a pet to take their medication. (Actually, that’s putting it mildly, as some of you can probably attest.) Plus, some animals can’t take certain meds. Many cats, for instance, can’t take certain medications because of potential liver damage.
Laser therapy appointments are usually quite short, rarely going over a half hour in length. This makes them very easy for you to schedule!
Laser therapy is actually based on the use of lights. In fact, the word LASER is an acronym for light: it stands for light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation. While some lasers can cut tissue and other materials, the lasers we use for therapy do not. In fact, it isn’t uncommon for pets to visibly relax during their sessions. Some even fall asleep!
Another great thing about laser therapy? Your beloved pet won’t need any aftercare, aside from maybe an extra nap, some snuggles, and maybe a yummy treat.
Laser therapy sessions can be repeated as needed. In fact, we often see continued improvement after each session. It’s wonderful to see these improvements!
Laser therapy is not an either/or type of option. It works very well alongside other treatments, and in fact often complements them. This gives your beloved pet the best of both worlds!
