Times To Board Your Pet

February 14, 2022

Do you board your furry friend when you go out of town? For many people, the main reason they would bring their pets to a hotel is because they are going away. However, vacations and business trips aren’t the only reasons to book your dog or cat a stay at the kennel. A Cornelius, NC vet lists some other occasions when it makes sense to board your pet in this article.

Surgery

If you’re having a minor outpatient procedure, boarding may not be necessary. However, if you are having major surgery, it may be best to board your pet for a few days. This of course also depends on your household, and the size and demeanor of your canine buddy. Check with your doctor and your vet.

Major Life Events

Things like weddings, births, and graduations are definitely major milestones in life. These occasions can get pretty chaotic, especially if you have a lot of people coming in from out of town. Family reunions can also result in having a house full of guests. When there’s a lot going on, it may just make sense to take one thing off your plate for a few days: in this case, pet care. You’ll be able to focus on the event at hand, while knowing Fido or Fluffy is safe and sound and being well taken care of.

Moving

Moving can be pretty traumatic for our furry pals. They won’t understand what is happening, or why their domains are being dismantled. You don’t want Fido or Fluffy slipping out an open door into an unfamiliar neighborhood, or getting in the way of your moving company! It may be a good idea to board your pet on the day the movers pick up your things, and then again when they get delivered.

Renovations

Major renovations can also be a dangerous time for pets, especially if there are a lot of power tools, sharp objects, and/or chemicals involved. Some pets also get very agitated by the noise and commotion. If you’re doing something that will take months, it makes more sense to keep your furry friend out of that area. However, for things that are going to be fast and messy, such as a flooring project or roof replacement, boarding may be something to consider.
