Fluffy's Holiday Agenda

November 15, 2020

The holidays are just around the corner! At this time of year, many people find their calendars filling up with seasonal events. Your feline pal also has a few things to scratch off her ‘to-do’ list. A local Cornelius, NC vet lists some of the things on Fluffy’s schedule planner below.

Help

Cats are actually very grateful for the love, care, food, and, of course, catnip we offer. To show her appreciation, Fluffy may thoughtfully try to assist you with things like wrapping gifts, decorating the tree, and cooking.

Tree Climbing

Climbing the tree may very well be your feline buddy’s favorite seasonal activity. It’s also one of the most dangerous! Your frisky pet could get seriously hurt if she gets tangled up in tinsel or pulls the tree down onto herself. There are a few things you can do to (somewhat) cat-proof your tree. Use fishing line to secure the top to the walls or ceiling. Also, keep your furball in mind when decorating. Cats love shiny objects. Put only a few, non-breakable ornaments on the bottom of the tree. Keep the rest–including anything fragile–on the top half.

Mischief

The holidays offer a veritable smorgasbord of chances for kitties to get into mischief. Many common holiday decor items are dangerous for Fluffy, which of course only makes them more appealing to her. Keep anything small or sharp out of paws’ reach. Items with ropes, threads, or cords are also unsafe. This includes things like tinsel, lights, garlands, and ribbons. Plants are dangerous as well. Holly, ivy, yew, mistletoe, and several other popular seasonal plants are toxic to pets.

Boxes

Kitties just can’t resist exploring small, enclosed spaces. Pick up a gift bag for your feline friend, and fill it with fun toys. Fluffy will also appreciate being given some empty boxes after everyone has opened their gifts. This can make for some adorable photos …. not to mention a happy furball!

Nap

No matter what time of year it is, or how chaotic things get, your furball will still somehow manage to keep up with her rigorous daily napping schedule. Don’t be surprised if you find her snoozing under a tree. After all, kitties are gifts! (Hint: beds make great gifts for cats!)

Please do not hesitate to contact us if we can ever be of assistance. As your Cornelius, NC vet clinic, we’re here to help!
